It is up to each of us to build a culture of care.

MUTUAL AID for the Met Museum Staff is a community-based effort organized for and by employees of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (the “Met”).

From September 16, 2020 to December 31, 2020, we raised and redistributed $111,415 to 207 members of our community facing financial hardship, food insecurity, and housing insecurity due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. We were committed to providing support to current and former employees who request it, prioritizing disbursements to those directly affected by the 400+ layoffs, furloughs, retirements, unrenewed contracts, and reductions of hours resulting from the Met’s closure during the pandemic.

This effort was intended to provide tangible support for those in our community who need it the most. In a time of great uncertainty, we believe in mutual aid as an expression of solidarity, care, and respect.

With final disbursements now complete, we want to express our gratitude for the support and solidarity expressed by all who contributed and helped to provide tangible assistance to those in our community who need it the most. We are now seeking out approaches to make a more sustainable network of support for the future.

This fund was independent of the Met.
